Cycling concept

In the municipality of Roeser, targeted measures to promote cycling are being planned and implemented in order to connect the individual localities within the municipal area as well as neighboring municipalities in an environmentally friendly way and to increase the share of active mobility. In addition to the municipality of Roeser with its seven villages, the study area also includes connections to the neighboring municipalities of Bettembourg, Hesperange, Frisange, Leudelange and Weiler-la-Tour.

The objective of the planned cycling concept is to establish a continuous, safe and attractive cycling network that links all important destinations and origins. The focus is on everyday cycling connections for commuters, students and leisure users. Integrating cycling into existing transport networks, linking it with public transport and promoting cycling as a climate-friendly alternative make an important contribution to sustainable and socially equitable mobility development. At the same time, regional cooperation is strengthened and the attractiveness of the municipality is further enhanced.

The analysis of the existing cycling network and the development of a target network as part of the concept preparation were carried out according to the following principles:

  • General consideration of cycling in all transport-related planning and design measures
  • Network effectiveness: priority is given to the creation of a clearly legible and continuous cycling network, simple network connections, and the improvement of accident black spots
  • Linking potential origins and destinations such as residential areas, educational institutions, railway stations, sports facilities and other important amenities

In addition, the following guiding principles were applied in the planning and selection of individual cycling facilities:

  • Consideration of pedestrian traffic
  • Avoidance of detours and steep gradients
  • Ensuring traffic safety (physical safety) as well as perceived safety

In implementing the cycling concept, the municipality of Roeser places great importance on public participation. In this context, a workshop was organized on 7 May 2025 in cooperation with the transport planning office komobile, inviting all citizens to contribute their knowledge, experiences and ideas. These suggestions were taken into account by komobile in the planning of the final concept wherever possible.

The final cycling concept was presented to the public on 11 November 2025 during an information evening. The PDF document below contains the presentation that was shown on that occasion (french or german language).
